THE PLACE
Everything begins in the Khangai.
The Khangai mountains rise across central Mongolia, a region shaped more by weather than by borders. Winters reach minus fifty. Summers are brief and green. The families who live here have raised yak, camel, and cashmere goats the same way for generations, moving with the seasons, working with the animals rather than against them.
This is where our fiber comes from. Not sourced through a broker, not blended with wool from anywhere else, gathered by hand, one herd at a time, from the people who raise the animals themselves.
The fiber
Three materials, Chosen for how they behave.
Yak. A hollow-core fiber that holds warmth without weight. The animals live at altitude, in cold that would kill most livestock — the down they grow reflects that. Camel. Thermoregulating by nature. It holds heat when the air turns cold and releases it when the air warms. Silk Road caravans understood this a thousand years ago. Cashmere. Combed from the underlayer of goats raised in the same highlands. The fibers come off long and intact, which is what softness and durability both depend on.
All three are lanolin-free. None of them itch. None of them need to be treated with chemicals to sit against skin.
The founder
A brand with one foot in Denver, and one in Mongolia.
Wilder & Wool was founded by Sascha Juraschek and is headquartered in Denver, Colorado.
The brand is American. The wool is not. We didn't want to blend origins to hit a price point, or manufacture closer to home for convenience. We wanted the fiber to come from where the fiber is best, made by the people who know it best, and then bring it to the customers who understand why that matters.
